Making Progress

Since the Coalition was established in 2001, U.S. foreign assistance funding for basic education programs has increased from $105 million in 2001 to $925 million in 2010. See funding chart.

Through U.S. and global leadership, the number of out-of-school children has fallen from 106 million in 1999 to 61 million in 2010.

The U.S. Agency for International Development has expanded its basic education programs to 56 countries around the world.  Media coverage of basic education issues has increased significantly.

There is a growing awareness of the need for children to receive a quality education and the need for effective practices for monitoring and measuring learning to be adopted.
