Education in the Tsunami-Affected regionAfter the Tsunami, New Schools in Banda Aceh In a short time, the children of Lamnga Elementary School and Bohatimah Kindergarten will be able to return to their original schools in Lamnga village on the tsunami-ravaged coast of Aceh province. With the help of Plan International and input from local communities, elementary schools and early childhood care and development centers will be built in Lamnga and Lamreh villages, and one elementary school will be constructed in Mindurung village in the Masjid Raya Subdistrict. Construction is expected to start in mid-April after a design process that will include public consultation with the communities, especially with students of the schools. Save the Children provided boots, shovels, sand, paint, paint brushes and other equipment to support the clean-up effort. As a result the school opened in early February. Forty children among the school's 175 students appear to have perished in the tsunami. Among 13 teachers, seven survived.
