Mission Statement

The mission of the Basic Education Coalition is to raise support for quality basic education as a key element in economic development and human well-being.

The Coalition believes …

  • every child in the world has the right to a quality basic education;
  • quality basic education is the foundation for long-term, sustainable success in development; and
  • substantial financial support from governments is needed to help achieve Education for All.

The Basic Education Coalition works with U.S. policymakers, partner organizations, and the public to increase support and funding for quality basic education around the world. Our objective is to accelerate progress toward the Education for All (EFA) goals, and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) relating to education. These international efforts aim to ensure that by 2015, every boy and girl around the world has access to a quality basic education. The Basic Education Coalition works to develop, encourage and support the U.S. role as a leader in these efforts.

  • Achieve gender parity by 2005, and gender equality by 2015, with a focus on girls’ accus to good quality basic education
