112th Congress Begins
Both the House of Representatives and Senate reconvened on January 5, 2011, marking the beginning of the 112th Congress. The new Republican majority in the House voted to elect John Boehner (R-OH) as Speaker of the House, while Democrats retained the majority in the Senate. Congressman Hal Rodgers (R-KY) will serve as Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. Subcommittee assignments have yet to be formally announced.
