President Obama Outlines New Development Approach

On June 25, President Obama released a statement outlining his new approach to international development. The new policy builds on the Administration’s recent food security and health initiatives and focuses on “results-based, strategic investments aimed at promoting meaningful and lasting results.”

The approach entails a renewed emphasis on key aid effectiveness principles such as country ownership, accountability, monitoring and evaluation, program sustainability and local capacity building.  The policy does not specify the Administration’s plans for global education assistance.
