FY11 Funding for Basic Education

On Thursday, July 29th the Senate Appropriations Committee approved its version of the FY11 State and Foreign Operations Appropriations bill, and recommended $845 million for basic education, a level that is slightly higher than the President’s request of $843,488,000.

This decision by the full Committee will have to be reconciled with the level of funding approved by Mrs. Lowey’s subcommittee for FY11 of $925 million, which would likely occur sometime late in the year if Congress decides to pass an omnibus package of appropriations bills.  Prior to that, we may see Congressional enactment of a continuing resolution that would maintain funding at FY10 levels.
